S. S. 밴다인

소개

S. S. 반 다인(S. S. Van Dine)은 미국의 미술 평론가 윌러드 헌팅턴 라이트(Willard Huntington Wright, 1888년 10월 15일 ~ 1939년 4월 11일)가 추리 소설을 쓸 때 사용한 필명이다. 라이트는 제1차 세계 대전 이전 뉴욕의 아방가르드 문화계에서 활동했으며, 원래 자신의 신분을 숨기기 위해 사용했던 필명으로 1920년대에 책에 처음 등장했고 이후 영화와 라디오에도 출연한 가상의 탐정 필로 밴스를 창조했다.

S. S. Van Dine is the pen name used by American art critic Willard Huntington Wright when he wrote detective novels. Wright was active in avant-garde cultural circles in pre–World War I New York, and under the pen name he created the fictional detective Philo Vance, a sleuth and aesthete who first appeared in novels, starting with The Benson Murder Case (1926), then in films and on the radio.
