라이어널 트릴링

라이어널 모데카이 트릴링(영어: Lionel Mordecai Trilling, 1905년 7월 4일 ~ 1975년 11월 5일)은 미국의 문학평론가, 소설가, 수필가, 교수이다. 20세기 미국 문학계에서 사회주의, 반스탈린주의에 기반한 문학집단인 뉴욕 지식인들(New York Intellectuals)의 일원으로 《파르티잔 리뷰》(Partisan Review)에 기고했다. 1938년 컬럼비아 대학교에서 매슈 아널드에 대한 연구로 박사학위를 받았으며 컬럼비아 대학교에서 교수로 재직하며 옥스퍼드 대학교, 하버드 대학교에서 강의하였다. 저서로 평론집 《자유주의적 상상력》(The Liberal Imagination, 1950), 강연집 《성실과 진정》(Sincerity and Authenticity, 1972) 등이 있다.

Lionel Mordecai Trilling was an American literary critic, short story writer, essayist, and teacher. One of the leading U.S. critics of the 20th century, he analyzed the contemporary cultural, social, and political implications of literature. He and his wife, Diana Trilling, were members of the New York Intellectuals and contributors to the Partisan Review.
