루이스 캐스

루이스 캐스(Lewis Cass, 1782년 10월 9일~1866년 6월 17일)는 미국의 중요한 사관이자 정치인이었다. 그는 미시간주를 위하여 상원을 지냈으며 또한 2명의 대통령들 - 앤드루 잭슨과 제임스 뷰캐넌의 내각들에서 일했다.

Lewis Cass was a United States Army officer and politician. He represented Michigan in the United States Senate and served in the Cabinets of two U.S. Presidents, Andrew Jackson and James Buchanan. He was also the 1848 Democratic presidential nominee. A slave owner himself, he was a leading spokesman for the doctrine of popular sovereignty, which at the time held the idea that people in each U.S state should have the right to decide whether to permit slavery as a matter of states' rights.
