존 범패스 캘훈(John Bumpass Calhoun, 1917년 5월 11일 ~ 1995년 9월 7일)은 미국의 동물행동학자이자 행동과학자로, 인구 밀도와 이것이 행동에 미치는 영향에 대한 연구로 잘 알려져 있다. 설치류의 개체수 과잉에 따른 절망적 결과가 인류의 미래에 대한 암울한 본보기라고 주장하였다. 캘훈은 연구를 진행하면서 인구 밀도가 과밀한 상황에서의 비정상적인 행동을 설명하기 위해 "행동의 싱크"라는 용어를 만들었고, 모든 사회적 상호작용을 중단한 수동적인 개인들을 설명하기 위해 "아름다운 것들"이라는 용어를 만들었다.
John Bumpass Calhoun was an American ethologist and behavioral researcher noted for his studies of population density and its effects on behavior. He claimed that his observations of the bleak effects of overpopulation on rodents were a grim preview for the future of the human race. During his studies, Calhoun coined the terms "behavioral sink" to describe aberrant behaviors in overcrowded situations, and "beautiful ones" to characterize passive individuals who withdraw from all social interaction under extreme population density.
