에디 알바레스

소개

에두아르도 코르테스 알바레스 은 쿠바계 미국인 야구 선수이다. 마이애미 말린스의 내야수이다. 2014년 동계 올림픽 쇼트트랙 5000m 계주로 은메달을 땄으며, 2020년 하계 올림픽 야구 미국 국가대표팀의 일원으로 은메달을 땄다. 다른 종목으로 동하계 올림픽에서 모두 메달을 딴 6번째 선수, 3번째 미국 선수가 되었다. 야구 이외의 종목에서 올림픽 메달을 따고 메이저 리그 베이스볼에서 활동한 선수는 짐 소프와 에디 알베레스 뿐이다.

Eduardo Cortes Alvarez is an American former professional baseball utility player and short track speed skater. He played in Major League Baseball (MLB) for the Miami Marlins, Los Angeles Dodgers, and New York Mets. He represented the United States and medaled at the 2014 Winter Olympics in short track speed skating. He also medaled as a baseball player at the 2020 Summer Olympics. He is the sixth athlete and third American ever to medal in both the Summer and Winter Olympics in different disciplines. After his MLB debut on August 5, 2020, Alvarez became the first Winter Olympics athlete and the first non-baseball Olympian since Jim Thorpe to play in MLB. They are also the only MLB players to win an Olympic medal in a different sport.
